In an earnest effort to support the celebration of the 123rd Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA), employees of the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) came together to participate in the Civil Service Commission’s (CSC) Plant Run on September 17, 2023 at the Yes City, Barangay Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal.

Honoring the country’s civil servants

With the theme, “Cultivating Dynamism Among Government Workers,” the event began with a vigorous and lively participation from employees of different government agencies and institutions as they gathered to listen to a program before the trail hike and tree planting activity.

In his keynote address, CSC Chairperson Atty. Karlo Alexei B. Nograles honored the 1.9 million civil servants and emphasized the importance of their “intergenerational responsibility” in taking care of nature.

Nograles also noted that the event reached its target number of participants by 180 percent, showing the high engagement and interest of government employees in the environmental undertaking.

“Dito po talaga natin makikita na tayong mga civil servants [ay] ginagampanan po natin ang lagi nating sinusumpa tuwing Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat at Panunumpa ng Lingkod Bayan- ang pagiging maka-kalikasan,” he added by emphasizing that their participation in the activity is a testament to their commitment in exhibiting one of the core values of civil servants.

DAPpers at one with nature

Armed with an unwavering desire to help Mother Earth, some 35 DAPpers went through an almost three kilometer trail hike to plant indigenous tree seedlings at the tree planting site located in Sitio Kay-Ibon. They were led by Human Resource Development Division Chief Marietta Q. Umbay and Information and Communications Technology Division Chief Jomar A. Pastrana.

The Plant Run is the first public gathering event held by the CSC for the celebration of the civil service anniversary in the “new normal.” Around 3,000 fruit-bearing, indigenous, and bamboo tree seedlings were planted by participants from different national government agencies (NGAs) and local government units (LGUs).

The DAP will continue to affirm its commitment and support to the CSC and to the country’s civil servants by partaking in similar activities in the future.
