Paving the Way: Assessing the Infrastructure Development Agenda in the Philippines

One of the flagship programs of the current administration is the Build! Build! Build! (BBB) Program which aims to lead the Philippines into the so-called “Golden age of infrastructure”. This program includes building new cities, more bridges and roads, railways, and other mass transport including airports and seaports under Departments of Transportation (DOTr) and Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).

With these projects, the government is optimistic that spending in the development of an improved infrastructure and transport systems would help in the economic recovery especially in the second year of the covid-19 pandemic. However, some of the projects under the BBB program were behind the initially projected commencement and completion dates.

Thus, the second webinar is an attempt to assess the status of the Build, Build, Build Program, in the context of the Philippine Development Plan 2017 – 2022 as well as the challenges, opportunities, and strategies to accelerate the infrastructure development in the country.  Moreover, the webinar will also analyze the program through the multi-stakeholder perspective from the academe, public, and private sectors especially in terms of governance reforms (if any) to ensure transparency and accountability in big-ticket government infrastructure projects as well as sustainability.
