Dr. Carlos Tabunda Jr., the Development Academy of the Philippines’ Executive Fellow, was recently honored for his TV programs when they were awarded the Anak TV Seal symbolic of those programs’ child- and family-friendly orientation.

Dr. Tabunda’s programs – ASEAN in Focus and ASEAN in Focus Weekend – were chosen for exemplifying shows that promote values and goodwill towards mankind and programs that are child-sensitive and family-friendly, the hallmark of the Anak TV Seal Award, reputed as one of the most prestigious awards being given to broadcast networks for their programs’ exceptional quality.

Over 5,000 adult jurors

Both aired on Net25, Tabunda’s programs were chosen for the honors by over 5,000 adult jurors from various sectors representing different geographic areas in the country during various assessment screenings staged from March to November 2016.

The DAP had an existing memorandum of agreement with Net25 for the airing of the two shows at the time the award was determined.

“It was for sure a big honor for me and, by extension, for the Academy when these two programs of mine were chosen for the Anak TV Seal Award,” Tabunda said.  “I intend to continue living up to the standards set by this award, and I hope I can continue serving our Filipino public by dishing out programs that are not only informative but also thought-provoking and sensitive to the needs of the times. I thank the people behind this award for recognizing our efforts to serve as that kind of a vehicle.

Two years

Dr. Tabunda has been hosting the ASEAN in Focus program for the past two years, using it as a vehicle to reinforce and ventilate the various developmental concerns and issues being processed at the DAP. His programs were among 26 feted from Net25.  Also well-represented in this year’s awards were ABS-CBN, UNTV, PTV, and Net25’s sister network, INC TV. Rounding out the networks that were given at least an award were TV 5, GMA Network, GMA News TV, IBC and Light Network.

Tabunda and other awardees were honored during ceremonies held at the Quezon City Experience at the Quezon Memorial Circle last December 10.
