Some 167 senior and middle management government executives gathered for the first Public Management Development Program (PMDP) Leadership conference at the DAP Conference Center last August 6-7 in Tagaytay City.
The two-day conference had the theme “Better Leaders. Better Government.” It is part of PMDP’s Continuing Education Program to hone and support its alumni that is intended to be a venue for exchange of ideas on innovation and practices in public service, discussion of latest trends in public management as well as establishing kinship among the different batches.
The plenary sessions featured local and international speakers including Camarines Sur Representative Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo who discussed “Grassroots Governance: Engaging Citizens for Development,” Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) Deputy Director General Dato` Abdul Latif bin Haji Abu Seman who shared on “Good Governance through Citizen-Centered Services,” and Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) Fellow and Lead Researcher (Socio-cultural) Ms. Moe Thuzar of Singapore who talked about “Current Trends in the ASEAN and their implications to the Philippines.”
Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) Chairman Cayetano Paderanga, Jr., Civil Service Commissioner Nieves Osorio and Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health Dean Dr. Manuel Dayrit served as keynote speakers in the two-day event.
Likewise, the PMDP scholars from different batches narrated shared successful re-entry projects (REPs) implementation and barangay immersion experiences in the knowledge learning sessions. The alumni also organized themselves into a formal association and selected their batch representatives to the Board of Directors.
The PMDP is an intensive, multi-modal training program that intends to produce a corps of public managers who exemplify competence, integrity and commitment. It is the Philippine Government’s career executive service program overseen by a steering committee composed of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Department of Finance (DOF), Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Career Executive Service Board (CESB). The DAP serves as the implementing agency for the PMDP which commenced in 2013.
