Dr. Brent Andrew G. Viray, a dedicated academic rural surgeon based in Aurora Province, has been recognized as one of The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of 2024 for Rural Medicine and Surgery by the Junior Chamber International-Philippines. A former Doctor-to-the-Barrio (Habagat-Batch 30) and an alumnus of the Master in Public Management major in Health Systems and Development (MPM-HSD) Batch 4, Dr. Viray is a staunch advocate for equitable surgical care, championing the cause: “One incision at a time, until no Filipino is left surgically behind.”
His pioneering work focuses on institutionalizing Philippine Rural Surgery within a Health Systems Framework, integrating top-down and bottom-up approaches to ensure comprehensive, accessible, and predictable surgical services—especially for the marginalized and disadvantaged.
Congratulations, Dr. Viray, on this well-deserved recognition! Your commitment to rural healthcare is truly inspiring.
