Known as the “backbone of Luzon,” Sierra Madre traverses the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Quezon. The 1.4 million hectares mountain ranges represent 40% of the country’s forest cover and shields Luzon from the typhoons coming from the Pacific Ocean.

However, the Mother mountain that frequently protects us needs protection too. Illegal logging, mining and quarrying have destroyed major parts of the mountain ranges, causing an increase in the frequency of landslides and severity of storms.

Here are some of the efforts from different groups to help conserve Sierra Madre.

The DAP community will do its own share via its tree planting activity at the UP Sierra Madre Nature and Conservation Reserve on August 4, 2023.
