On October 8, 2026, DAP, through the Office of the Academy Registrar (OAR), in collaboration with the Micro-Credentials Small Working Group (MC SWG), conducted the Programs Innovation Workshop: Mapping Micro-Credentials, Competencies, and Strategic Partnerships at the DAP Idea Generation Hub (IGH). The workshop brought together DAP Center Heads, directors, and technical staff to discuss potential micro-credential offerings, target competencies, and strategic partnerships.

Dr. Lawrence V. Madriaga, PhD, Senior Vice President for Services Group and Supervising Fellow of the MC SWG, led the workshop, which focused on mapping potential micro-credential offerings, target competencies, and strategic partnerships. He discussed the distinction between micro-credentials and short courses, emphasizing demonstrated skills, assessment-based validation, and the importance of industry partnerships in ensuring program relevance.

The workshop was attended by Vice President Imee C. Caluen of Center for Governance (CFG), Acting Vice President Monica D. Saliendres of Productivity and Development Center (PDC), the respective Directors of PDC and Center for Career Executive Service Development (CCD), and the technical staff from the Graduate School of Public Management (GSPM) and Center for Strategic Futures (CSF), reflecting the collaborative participation of DAP Centers and Units in advancing the development of micro-credentials programs.

Representatives from the participating Centers presented their proposed micro-credential programs, which were reviewed and discussed to assess their clarity, focus, and alignment with the micro-credentials framework.

The discussions highlighted the importance of a consistent program structure, clearly defined learning outcomes, and competency-based assessment to validate skills and promote consistency across programs.

Through this initiative, DAP is advancing collaboration among its Centers and Units toward the development of structured, competency-based learning opportunities. The initiative supports the Academy’s continuing efforts to promote professional development and lifelong learning while exploring how micro-credentials can help address changing skills requirements in the public sector and other relevant fields.
