The Academy’s Center for Governance conducted the Basic Project Management and Development Course on September 5-9, 2016, with 58 participants from national line agencies, constitutional bodies and government-owned and controlled corporations completing the five-day training course held at the Virata Hall of the DAP Conference Center in Pasig City.

The course was designed to equip program and project managers as well as the technical staff of the  reaucracy a comprehensive understanding of the concepts and approaches in project planning and the management of development programs and projects.

22 gov’t agencies represented

The course brought together personnel from some 22 government agencies and offices, including the  Department of Agriculture, the DA-Agricultural Training Institute, the DA Regional Offices in Regions 2 and 7,  Bureau of Animal Industry, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Bureau of Soils and Water Management, Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization, Sugar Regulatory Administration, Department of Budget and Management, Department of Education, Department of Finance, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Science and  Technology, Board of Investments, Philippine Science High School, National Mapping and Resource Information Authority, Clark Development Corporation, Credit Information Corporation, the Civil Service Commission, and Office of the Ombudsman.

Learned project cycle management

They went through the different project management course lectures, discussions and activities presided over by project management experts, monitoring and evaluation experts and an economic development   specialist that made up the faculty.

The course participants were also given the opportunity to apply their learnings through the agency project proposals they were asked to draft, and which they later presented to a panel of DAP officers composed of Vice President and Managing Director Imelda Caluen of the Center for Governance, Vice President and Managing Director Alan Cajes of the Sustainable Human Development Program, Director Alvin Principe of the Center for Governance-Operations Management Office, Director Monica Saliendres of the Productivity and Development Center-Product Development and Research Office and Program Manager Maria Rosario Ablan of the Center for Governance.
