Pasig City, Philippines, 15 August 2025—The Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), through the Public Management Development Program – Local Government Executives and Managers Class, has concluded the second batch of the Course on Artificial Intelligence for Local Government Units (LGUs), underscoring the critical role of strategic leadership in driving digital transformation within LGUs.
Over the three-day course, participants explored practical AI applications to enhance frontline services, strengthen disaster response, optimize government data systems, and encourage stronger citizen support. Guided by the session objectives, participants defined AI fundamentals and responsible AI principles, identified relevant use cases and risks, prioritized AI opportunities in their operations, and drafted preliminary action plans.
In her closing remarks, Director Jannis T. Montañez of the Local Governance and Development Office stressed that while technology is a powerful enabler, it is the vision and capability of local leaders that primarily drive transformative change. She noted that the course, aligned with the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, places transformation at the core of national progress. She also underscored that effective digitalization requires strategic leaders to harness AI to deliver genuine public service impact.
The Academy is grateful for the partnership with Fulbright Commission which made this course on AI possible.
With Batch 2 now completed, the DAP looks forward to seeing LGU representatives and leaders translate these learnings into meaningful initiatives that contribute to the development across the country.
