Pasig City, Philippines, July 23, 2025—The Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), through its Center for Governance–Local Governance and Development Office (CFG-LGDO), and Fulbright Commission, launched the first batch of the Course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Local Government Units (LGUs). Some 36 participants from 22 LGUs have joined the course, reflecting the DAP’s continuous commitment to advancing digital transformation and innovation in public service.
Setting the tone for the three-day training, CFG-LGDO Director Jannis T. Montañez welcomed the participants and guests, emphasizing the importance of empowering LGUs to lead innovation at the grassroots level. She acknowledged the collaboration with the Fulbright Commission, which made the course possible, and introduced Fulbright Specialist Joshua Ness, as the resource person.
Director Montañez also highlighted the shared responsibility of the public sector to embrace emerging technologies responsibly, in support of inclusive digital literacy and evidence-based policymaking.
The course aims to equip LGU executives, department heads, and key functionaries with essential knowledge and practical tools to leverage AI for improved public service delivery. Sessions are focused on actionable strategies, relevant local use cases, and frameworks for responsible AI adoption tailored to the local context.
