20 May 2025—The Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), through its Graduate School of Public and Development Management (GSPDM), held an exploratory meeting with key stakeholders in the Bicol Region to present recent research findings and formally turn over GSPDM-developed knowledge products.

Atty. Arnaldo E. Escober, Jr., Regional Director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Office V, welcomed the DAP delegation.

GSPDM Dean, Dr. Lizan E. Perante-Calina, presented the program rationale and discussed the relevance of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) localization through Futures Thinking. She highlighted the need for anticipatory approaches in governance and identified the DILG Region V’s Local Governance Regional Resource Center as a potential platform for applying such frameworks in the region. She also shared research findings that emphasized the role of cross-sectoral collaboration in improving SDG implementation.

GSPDM Learning Associate Mark Dingle presented research study “Rethinking Future Scenarios for Philippine Tourism: Towards Resiliency and Sustainability in 2040 and Beyond” by Dr. Monina Buccat, which used foresight tools to explore scenarios for the tourism sector.

Meanwhile, Shirwood Faigmane provided an overview of DAP-GSPDM’s program offerings designed to advance sustainable development and support the evolving needs of the Philippine bureaucracy.

This cascading activity marks a critical step in DAP’s ongoing commitment to bridging research and practice—translating academic work into actionable strategies that address real-world governance and development challenges
