Cesar E.A. Virata, first prime minister of the Philippine Parliamentary System, keynoted the launch of the book, “The Fellows Speak,” lauding the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) for its continuing development work at the Academy’s OD Corpuz Hall on October 22, 2015.

Virata cited poverty as the most critical   social concern of the Philippines today and encouraged the DAP to focus on employment solutions particularly in the rural areas where poverty is most pronounced.  Extolling the dignity of labor as a most noble value at this time of great need, Virata also exhorted the government to exert utmost effort in providing jobs for the increasing number of unemployed.

The book “The Fellows Speak” is actually a collection of papers presented by various past and present expert consultants of the DAP in a roundtable discussion series conducted in 2014. Eminent fellows of the DAP who presented their papers in the discussions are primary authorities in their respective fields, including Virata himself who spoke on public service and governance,  Corazon Alma de Leon, an expert in social science, former social welfare secretary, and Chair of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) who dwelt on  volunteerism in the public sector, and Rafael Alunan III, former interior secretary of the Ramos administration who discussed human and ecological security.

Magdalena Mendoza, DAP senior vice  president, described the book as having captured “gems of wisdom on development” issues, affirming the wisdom of the DAP’s shift to knowledge management techniques in its quest for     development solutions for the country.

Trygve Bolante, DAP OIC, has meanwhile reaffirmed the DAP’s commitment to increasing resources for the publication of papers, researches, and works of the Council of Fellows, a group constituted by past and present fellows of the  Academy. (SAMable)
