The Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), through its Productivity and Development Center (PDC) – Advocacy and Institutional Development Office (AIDO), spearheaded a knowledge-sharing session on ISO 21001:2018 Educational Organizations Management System (EOMS) titled “A Transformative Pathway to Excellence in Philippine Public Education” on November 22, 2024. This session served as a platform to discuss the integration of quality management practices into the Philippine education system, aligning it with international standards and paving the way for transformational changes that benefit students, educators, and the broader community.

Over 440 virtual participants from various schools, colleges, universities, and training institutions nationwide participated in the event. The session highlighted the advantages and practical applications of ISO 21001:2018 EOMS as a tool to enhance educational practices, improve institutional systems, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. This international standard is tailored to assist educational organizations in refining their management systems, promoting student-centered approaches, and ensuring long-term growth in the education sector.

Key Insights from the Session

The knowledge-sharing session explored several critical topics, including:

  • Actionable strategies for implementing EOMS in public and private educational settings;
  • Methods for fostering a culture of excellence and student engagement;
  • Integration of Quality Management Systems (QMS) with EOMS to elevate institutional practices.

Professor Jonilo Del Rosario, supervising fellow and professor at the DAP Graduate School of Public and Development Management (DAP-GSPDM), underscored how ISO 21001:2018 can guide educational organizations toward operational excellence and quality management. He emphasized the standard’s role in transforming educational institutions into centers of excellence that respond to the dynamic needs of learners and society.

Through the session, participants gained valuable insights into:

  • The relevance of ISO 21001:2018 for educational institutions;
  • Practical steps for implementing EOMS in educational environments;
  • Key strategies for integrating QMS with EOMS to ensure institutional growth; and,
  • Approaches to embedding a culture of continuous improvement in education.

Participants’ Feedback and Closing Remarks

Participants expressed a strong interest in learning more about the implementation of ISO 21001:2018 within their respective institutions. In her closing remarks, DAP Project Officer Anna Esperanza Sabularse highlighted the importance of adopting ISO 21001:2018, stating that it demonstrates educational organizations’ commitment to creating a quality learning environment that meets the needs of students, educators, and the wider community.

A Call to Action

As the education sector faces increasing challenges—including technological advancements, shifting student expectations, and evolving societal demands—the DAP underscores the need for educational institutions to adopt ISO 21001:2018 to ensure sustainability and long-term success.

DAP invites educational institutions to deepen their understanding of ISO 21001:2018 and its implementation through PDC’s training courses. These programs are designed to guide institutions in adopting and integrating EOMS, offering free exploratory meetings and technical assistance in aligning operations with the EOMS framework.
