The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) obtained the services of the Development Academy of the Philippines’ Center for Governance (DAP-CFG) for a training on data analytics for four batches of participants for the months of August and September this year.

The training aims to introduce and discuss principles and best practices on data management in the public sector and the role of data analytics in converting data into actionable insights.  It is seen to improve the PPA’s policies and services as well as provide quantitative and qualitative tools to analyze and present data.  Moreover, it is in line with the PPA’s commitment to provide meaningful and gainful empowerment for its personnel while creating a nurturing environment that promotes continuous learning and improvement.

Some 32 PPA division managers, chiefs, specialists, data analysts, internal auditors, security officers, and engineers from Metro Manila attended and comprise the first batch of participants who went through the training at the PPA GAD Center in Port Area, Manila last August 14-16.  During the training, the participants were equipped with the latest practical data-driven approaches, methodologies, tools and techniques in collecting, analyzing, presenting, organizing, and archiving data as well as a better appreciation of data analytics and its vital role in improving productivity and efficiency in the public sector.

The resource persons include:  Mr. Dave E. Pipon of the Asian Development Bank; Ms. Alana G. Ramos and Ms. Alexcenah S. Dela Vega of the Department of Information and Communication Technology; Dr. Josefina V. Almeda of the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute; and Prof. John Lorenzo A. Yambot of the Institute of Statistics of the University of the Philippines Los Baños.

The succeeding runs of training will be attended by participants from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao and are scheduled on August 28 to 30, September 11 to 13, and September 25 to 27, respectively. – Elluz Macalinao
