The Development Academy of the Philippines recently conducted its first public run of the Training on Research Tools for Policymaking last December 3 to 7, 2018 at the L.S. Virata Hall at DAP Pasig.  The training workshop aimed to build and enhance the participants’ knowledge in research tools in relation to the public sector by tackling various facets in the conduct of research that will enable the participants to prepare a research plan in aid of policymaking.

A total of 40 participants from 19 agencies, government-owned and controlled corporations, and state universities and colleges attended the course, which had eight sessions that offered an in-depth discussion of the different methods and tools in the conduct of research in government.  This was in line with the DAP Policy Research Office’s advocacy towards evidence-based policymaking.

The training also covered topics such as cost-benefit analysis, survey design and administration, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and ethical consideration in the conduct of research.

As an illustrative case, the research tools and methodology used in the impact evaluation of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development was shared with the participants.

The training on research tools for policymaking was the last public offering by the Center for Governance for the year.
