Pasig City, February 4, 2022 – The Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP)- project Smarter Philippines through Data Analytics R&D, Training, and Adoption (SPARTA) held a webinar highlighting the importance of statistical analysis and modeling on February 4, 2022.

In his opening remarks, DAP Vice President and SPARTA Project Lead Dr. Alan Cajes, emphasized the importance of data and encouraged the attendees to take the opportunity to augment their skills and interest in Data Science and Analytics (DSA).

“As we hold this webinar, we hope that what you will learn here will help you in putting forward meaningful contributions that will benefit our country,” Cajes impressed upon the participants.

University of the Philippines Assistant Professor and SPARTA Subject Matter Expert (SME) Raymond Freth Lagria discussed the process of performing statistical analysis while the SPARTA SME and Cirrolytix Research Services Managing Consultant and Head of Research and Analytics, Frances Claire Tayco, talked about the application of the different analytics and modeling tools to a variety of projects. Both Lagria and Tayco also addressed questions from the attendees via Zoom platform and Facebook livestream during the open forum.

Meanwhile, Supervising Science Research Specialist, Glenda Dorcas Sacbibit, of the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) formally closed the virtual event and encouraged the attendees to use what they have learned in their future endeavors.

She also promoted the Good Governance through Data Science and Decision Support System (GODDESS), a data-driven and evidence-based research and development program by the DOST-PCIEERD and encouraged the SPARTA learners to submit their projects under the 2022 call for proposals for a chance to put their learnings into action.

“We, as your project managers from SPARTA, hope that the participants in this event have picked up knowledge and wisdom from our speakers. We hope that this seed of knowledge germinates into projects that will be implemented in the future,” Sacbibit added.

This is the second webinar conducted by SPARTA. It was attended by some 170 Zoom participants and 1,100 Facebook and YouTube livestream viewers.
